THE ORCHESTRA
Our unique mentoring scheme makes for an incredible orchestra. Professional players are booked to perform and mentor, teachers put forward their students - with only a certain number of places available this is scheme for advanced students, possibly looking towards a career in orchestral playing. This is a once in a school career opportunity to discover the way a professional orchestra rehearses and in the very specific world of opera - not an opportunity given regularly. Under the guidance of an international conductor they will learn skills they never would in a school orchestra situation.
The chorus are given all the necessary tools to sing an opera in original language (translations, phonetic guides, recorded pronunciation guides). They work in their individual schools learning their notes and then on a chorus day the forces combine. With a leader and a mentor they discover how an operatic chorus differs from a school choir: how to sing with dramatic interpretation, what an individual can bring to a group experience, how they fit into the story and what that story can tell us in our lives in the 21st Century.
